Matt, the good daddy that he is, started Sage's weekend with a surprise trip to the "Ice Cream House" for some frozen yogurt. Unfortunately, when Matt tried to bring me home a little bowl, Sage had quite the meltdown because he wanted to eat it himself.
Ahh.... Saturday morning.
This is a typical breakfast for us. Not just on Saturdays, but every day of the week. We take breakfast very seriously. And we always eat it in bed while watching Curious George.
Have you ever seen such gorgeous tossled hair before?!? So yummy! But come Sunday...I gave Sage a trim. It still looks good. But a little less beach bum.
Sage takes wonderful care of his little brother. He so hands-on. He likes to wipe him when I change his diaper. He likes to give him teethers when he is fussy. He holds is hand....
And he builds make-shift playpens for him.
This is Sage's version of a playpen...
Completely surrounded in noise-making/primary-color chaos.
Saturday morning was our last music class. We did it! We finished the series. And our teacher played her Native American flute for us on this last day. Pretty cool!
After class, Sage and I stopped by YumYums to get some gyros for the family. While we were waiting for the food to cook, Sage had a truly life-changing experience. He got to a put a quarter in a candy machine!
I let him do this twice (although he begged for more).
He stuffed his pockets with jelly beans and MnMs.
Then he had a sugar crash...
After naptime, it started to warm up significantly. The sun was bright and hot. We went outside to soak it up.
I think the picture above and the picture below really capture the essence of Colorado weather. Snow on the ground. Enough to make a snowman. But we are all outside, under a sun-brella, with bare feet and short sleeves.
I have been trying to learn more about by Cannon camera. I've never read the instruction booklet and don't know even a quarter of what it's capable of doing. My first experiment on this afternoon was to try out a lens hood. Hoods are essential when taking pictures on sunny days. It helps block out the direct UV rays of the sun.
This is the before picture:
This is the after picture:
The hood made quite the improvement. But...I need some practice. In several of my photos, you can see the edges of the hood. With time, hopefully I can perfect my photography skills.
If I didn't have kids, I'd have more time to learn about photography. But then I'd have nothing to take pictures of!
We've started using the highchair as one additional place for Kale to hang out. He can watch me cook... watch me eat...
And most frequently of all, watch me do dishes!
And then it was Sunday...
Oh my god...I am so obsessed with his mouth!
On Sunday, Kale passed a big milestone.
Kale had "solids" for the first time!
My big 6-month old boy is eating food!
I let him do some self-feeding.
I also let big brother help.
And daddy wanted to try too!
And then it was Monday...
Sage always wears his cool shades to school.
Kale and I did our usual grocery shopping. It was sunny and warm that day... but that doesn't quite explain why Kale is in only socks and a diaper. Hmmm.... I'm thinking blowout. But I can't remember...we have so many of them!
One of my old colleagues sent Kale a "welcome to Earth" gift. A tie-dye hat and matching socks. She knows me very well!
As the week progressed, we kept practicing with the oatmeal.
And Sage continued to hone his babysitting skills...
I visit Kale everyday over lunch to nurse him. Although lately all he does is bite me. Which is incredibly painful even for a baby with no teeth. This is how I found him upon my arrival on Thursday. Sound asleep in a cozy doughnut.
Then on Thursday night, we gave Kale mashed banana for the first time.
His face seems to say, "What the hell is this?!?"
Sage loves to sort. He's very orderly...but only when he's not asked to be. If I beg him to pick up his toys. That's a big fat no. But if he's playing cars all by himself, he'll put them in the straightest line, or park each one ever so carefully on an index card.
Kale is finally getting those baby rolls I remember so clearly from Sage's early days.
Can't wait to show them off in cute summer rompers!
