Halloween Festivities

This past week has been filled with Halloween festivities! And I am loving it! Halloween hasn't been this fun in a long time. I feel like a kid again.

On Saturday, we returned to the Gardens on Spring Creek for an Enchanted Halloween event.

Sage popped balloons for prizes.

He successfully completed a corn maze.

He bowled with pumpkins.

He climbed rocks.

He found a "witch broom." And really grew attached to it!

Look at those mischievous little eyes.... He looks likes he's plotting against me.

He really impressed us with the beanbag toss!

After every activity, Sage got to pick a prize out of a bucket. We went home with a lot of trinkets.

Snack time!

He explored plants and rocks.

And he listened to live music.
What an afternoon!
And the weather was incredible! Sage is in a long-sleeve T-shirt only to prevent him from getting sunburned. I, however, was in a tank-top. Savor these warm days, people. It's all over soon!

On Sunday, we headed out to another Halloween event.
Treatsylvania at The Lee Martinez Farm.

The entire park was covered with little make-shift "houses." Kids travelled from door to door, knocked, and received their candy.

To motivate him, we gave Sage a bite of a Reece's Peanut Butter Cup. Candy then became a prized possession. (He got it!) And from that point forward he would not release any pieces from his hand. We had to pry the candy from his fingers - only to make room for more candy.

About halfway through the event Sage agreed to wear the costume we had brought along. It was so hot...I don't blame him for resisting.

At the very end, each child was rewarded with a cookie. I thought Sage deserved it. Trick or treating is hard work.
He's had a lot of sugar this week!
(And so have his parents. Tis the season!)

On Tuesday, we had yet ANOTHER Halloween celebration.
His daycare hosted a costumed party. And this time, he went as a monkey!

Sage watched Dad decorate a cookie. Then the three of us shared it!

Sage explored the older kids classrooms.

A now for some non-Halloween updates:

Sage's new word is "this." But he says it in a baby accept and it sounds more like "dees." It's so cute!

He now officially has 5 language signs. They are: more, all-done, milk, please, and thank you. When he signs "thank you" it looks likes he blowing you a huge kiss. It's multi-functional! When he wants something sweet (like a toddler cookie or honey cheerios) I make him do at least 3 signs to get what he wants. Evil mommy!

Sage is doing so well in his new daycare room. Every single day he takes naps that range from 2 to 3 hours in length. I knew he would be a stellar sleeper in that room!

He brings home lots of art projects each week. So now I'm inspired to make this a part of our home routine too. I loved art as a child and still do. I hope that art is something special Sage and I can share together. I bought crayons, finger paint, and a giant pad of paper this past weekend. Unfortunately, Matt and I did more coloring than Sage...but that will change soon.

These pictures demonstrate my attempt to use construction paper and tape in a creative way. It was somewhat successful. Sage got the concept quickly. But it only entertained him for 15 minutes.

Another recent development is Sage's appetite. Sadly, he has turned his back on many of the proteins and vegetables he used to love. He never turns down fruit. He accepts most grains. He also loves dairy! But the only vegetable he eats is peas. Thank god for peas! Without them....the child would never eat anything green. He used to love tofu - but no more. He used to love sweet potato - but he won't touch it. I cook and cook and cook and he throws most of it on the ground. So frustrating!

He actually eats much better at daycare than he does at home. He likes to mimic his classmates. So if they eat carrots, he eats carrots. But at home, he flings them across the room. Because of his obsession with "being like everyone else," I have started mimicking the lunches served at daycare. I still pack all-natural meat-free lunches for him, but I work with the cook on-site to make sure my food looks similar to their food. It's working for us so far!

And one more thing... Sage is 15 months old now!!
