Fall Fun

In pictures like these, I think to myself...damn!
We are a cute family! And we sure got our shit together!
Look at us reading in bed. Picture perfect....

But then, in pictures like the one below, I'm reminded that life with two kids is really really challenging. Matt and I are both physically and mentally exhausted at the end of each day (and beginning and middle of each day) from wrangling a toddler and a newborn. This is very tough work and it's going to take some practice.

Though a break or two during the week would be nice....
How can we not love our life?
I mean, look at that face below!! What a cutie.
A bit of a grump grump. But oh so cute!

In preparation for daycare (set to start in January of 2015 for little Kale), we have began introducing the bottle. And he didn't object!

I got ambitious one afternoon and decided to make twice-baked potatoes for dinner. Well, I failed to poke holes in the potatoes prior to baking in the oven. And one of them actually exploded. The thing practically disintegrated, coating my oven walls with 5 billion tiny potato particles. That will teach me to cook!

We continue to have gorgeous weather this October. So, Kale and I have been spending lots of time lounging in the backyard.

Notice the beer by the blanket?

Love love love that face!

On Wednesday, I had the two boys all by myself. And we decided to take a field trip to the petting farm. Kale was strapped to my chest, so we could easily chase Sage around.

Notice that he's actually touching that horse's ear!

Doing yoga on the bridge.

Sage and Kale each snagged a pumpkin for themselves.

Every time I survive a Wednesday, I give myself a mental gold star. Or more like a giant gold trophy. I don't know how mothers (or fathers) handle two kids everyday all by themselves. One day a week is all I can do right now. It is so physically demanding!

I'm obsessed with Kale's hands.
I think he has the nicest little fingers.

On Friday afternoon, Sage's daycare hosted a Fall Festival and chili cook-off. Each of the classrooms hosted fun activities for the kids. The photo-booth was my favorite!

On Saturday, we went pumpkin picking. It was hot and sunny.
And we found some HUGE pumpkins!

Gourds...just the perfect size for Sage.

Pumpkin picking, direct from the fields, is a little challenging with a 5-week old strapped to your chest. At one point, I bent down to pick up a pumpkin, and had to do a funky ballet-style plie so as to keep my back straight and not shake Kale loose... and I split my pants wide open! This was literally about 15 minutes into the field trip. And I walked around with my underwear hanging out for the rest of the day. :)

After scoring this giant pumpkin, we discovered that our wagon had not one, but two, flat tires. And we only had to haul the damn thing about a half mile back up to the front of the farm. Poor Matt. It was quite the workout. And wagons were in high demand that afternoon. So we couldn't swap it for another one - despite our efforts.

Before leaving the farm, we took a tractor hayride.

Looks who loves his little brother!

After that exhausting field trip, the rest of the weekend consisted of simple fun and games around the house.

We built a pretty sweet parking lot for all of Sage's hot wheels!
