Bike Ride To The River

Saturday was the best day ever!
This is what I have been waiting for all year long!
It was hot and humid and gorgeous Saturday morning. So I convinced the family it was time to pump up the old tires and take our first bike ride of the season.

We had a general trail in mind....but didn't know that we would stumble across the BEST secret spot along the Poudre river. That was just fate.

We pulled off about 4.5 miles into the trip, parked the bikes, and followed this dirt path back a couple yards.

And stumbled right into the river! It was little boy paradise! There were thousands of stones within easy reach and Sage had the time of his life collecting them and tossing them into the water.

We were all alone. Not a single soul in sight.

Then it was time for a watermelon snack.

I could have spent the whole day here.... but nap time was quickly approaching.

Just a boy and the river.
This is why growing up in Colorado is so great!

Time for more watermelon.
Now Sage feeds Mommy.

Hey Dad? Do you want a piece too?

I can't wait to go back when everything is in full bloom.

After nap, all Sage talked about was his bicycle ride. And all day long he continued to put the bike helmets on. Clearly he had a great time!

I'm glad we were able to sneak this bike ride in...because the weather drastically changed for the worst just shortly after our return. For several days now it has been very very windy (up to 60 miles per hour), cloudy, and cold (with highs in the low 50's.) Sadly, due to the weather, we were not able to attend the annual Kites in the Park Event we were so excited about. The city had to cancel it. I'm crossing my fingers it gets rescheduled...but so far no word.

And now for a baby bump update...
I am 19 weeks today. And 20 weeks tomorrow. That means I'm already half way! We are flying through this pregnancy!

And finally, to see my latest CSU blogs, please click on the links below. I've had a lot to talk about lately!

Easter Weekend

On Saturday morning, I took Sage to a community Easter egg hunt. There were over 12,000 eggs available for grabs. Sage was in the 0-3 age group. Some of the eggs contained numbers that corresponded to cash prizes, so it was quite the frenzy once the hunt started. Sage took his sweet time opening each egg he collected before going to the next one, while all the greedy parents around us scooped up armfuls of eggs for their kids. I thought that was a bit unfair. The age group was 0-3, not 30 and up! So before we knew it, all the eggs were gone and the hunt was over. Next time we will have to look for a community hunt without any cash prizes involved. I really just wanted Sage to have an experience. And he did...but it was rushed and chaotic. (We did get a free cupcake though! Plus lots of little candies.)

Later in the day, as it started to slowly warm up, we did some gardening. We harvested a lot of our green onions. (Those things grow like weeds!)

And I made us coleslaw from scratch.
With lots of delicious green onions of course!

Then we cleared out the other side of the garden bed so we could plant our lettuce, kale, and herbs.

5 months pregnant. You can't stop me!

As it got hotter, Sage had a change of outfits.

And then he just bared it all. It was sunbathing time!

Look at my sexy man!

I told him to make a silly face.... and this is what he came up with!

In the evening, it was time to dye Easter eggs.

It was a marbling dye kit. And it worked really well. The first round of dyeing was just like normal. For the second round of dyeing, we added vegetable oil to the color baths and swirled the eggs in a second color. We were so impressed with the outcome!

And then it was Easter morning!
We began the day with cinnamon rolls. Then Matt entertained Sage upstairs while I set out the basket of goodies (a collection of items from both sets of grandparents and the parents), as well as the Easter eggs.

And just like the day before... Sage opened each and every egg prior to collecting the next one. He ate a lot of chocolate that morning.

He was especially excited about his Elmo eggs - sent by his Kansas grandparents.

He was also very excited about some of the eggs' contents. Rather than just using candy, Matt and I filled his eggs with stickers, plastic puppies, and Hotwheels.

Sheryl (Grandma Diemer) made the cutest Easter card for Sage! Can you believe this was done by hand?!? I am impressed!

After indulging in his basket of eggs, we brought out the big toy.

A battery-powered Kawasaki bike!
It was purchased for a really good price around Christmas time and we were waiting for just the right occasion to give it to Sage. With the weather getting so nice, we thought Easter seemed like the perfect time.

He's a bit intimidated by the power of the bike. So sometimes he prefers to just push it. Silly boy!

After Sage's nap, we headed down the street to the local elementary school to fly a kite! This is a new kite recently purchased in preparation for Fort Collin's "Kites in the Park" event (taking place next weekend). And we needed to get some practice time in.

Sage was so excited!

Matt flying the kite.

Me flying the kite.

FYI: To my own knowledge, I have never in my life flown a kite. This was definitely a bucket-list item for me. Check!

Look at the baby belly growing!

Once Sage lost interest, we headed to the swings.

And then it was time to head home to finish cooking Easter dinner.

Sage entertained himself with all his new "stickies."

While I put the finishing touches on the twice baked potatoes and parmesan brussels sprouts.

Matt and Sage also indulged in a Virginia Honey Baked Ham....
And I hear it was pretty darn good!
