We have a new favorite holiday...and it's Saint Patrick's Day! We have never celebrated this holiday in any significant sense before. But this year that all changed. I'm totally sold! It was probably all the sunshine and good weather...but we had the best time. And all we really did was wear some green sparkly items and watch a parade. But it was awesome.
Fort Collins has been hosting a St. Patty parade for years. But this was our first experience. And we had a grand old time... even though it was of a simple nature. High school marching bands, baton twirlers, amateur floats. And lots and lots of candy for the kids. The parade was Saturday morning at 10am in Old Town.
I should mention here that Matt was quite the sport on this day. He was terribly sick, and had been for over a week. He got a nasty cough and sinus infection. Kale got a tiny hint of it. But Matt was hit hard. I still dragged him out to the parade. (Life can't completely stop for sick daddy's.) I appreciate his willingness to go out in public with me. I would not have been able to do it alone with the boys. And since we were outside, we weren't worried about spreading any germs.
Sage looks great in the top hat.
Now me...I think I look a little like Willy Wonka. And that's not the most flattering of looks. Someone should have told me! Lose the hat or the glasses...but please don't combine them!
We were home from the parade around noon. The weather continued to warm up from there. We were in the 70's and 80's all weekend long - with the peak of the heat hitting on Monday. It was incredible. Like a hot July day in March! And we took full advantage of the sunshine.
We busted out some of our classic summer toys. Like this climbing wall and slide...
Sage is an expert climber.
In fact, just this week he learned how to climb out of the crib and over the baby gates at the top of the stairs. So that's great... That's how we enforced time-out and bed-time. Now he's running wild, with no fences to help us wrangle him. This is new and scary territory.
On a hot day like this...we also had to bust out the sand-and-water-table.
When I look at the picture below, I hear only one thing in my head:
"Eh-oh!!"
Or maybe, "Wazzzup?!"
Sage fed Luna some catnip.
At the end of a long and playful Saturday, the boys had baths. Kale's hair is always so fluffy after a bath. I love it! It's soft and sticks straight up.
Then we read some books, like we do every single night, and we started all over again the next day with more outdoor play.
Sunday was even hotter.
So we had a picnic barbecue outside on the porch. Hot dogs and baked beans for all!
We hung outside all day. I got quite a nice tan base started. (I think I may have even sunburned my shoulders a bit.)
Here's some proof of how hot it was.
80 degrees in the shade.
And in direct sun...
It was friggin 95!
I actually got a little scared when I saw the 95 on the thermometer. I love hot weather, I love sunshine..but the words "global warming" were looming in the back of my head.
There was only one thing left to do on a hot day like this...
Go to the Dairy Queen!
We gorged ourselves on blizzards and cones. And it was so good!
Poor Sage couldn't even finish his. It was too much.
On Monday, we had an even hotter day. I raced through the grocery store so I could get back home and take a hot walk around the block. (Did I mention I'm a total sun worshiper? I thrive on sunshine!)
You can tell from Kale's rosy cheeks how warm it was. And he was in a shaded stroller!
And then it was Tuesday - Saint Patrick's Day!
My mom surprised the boys with a big box of green goodies. We had fun playing dress up.
The rest of the week was rather normal. I worked on our taxes. I cooked Indian food. I got my oil changed. I continued to feed Kale baby food (he's had apples, sweet potatoes, bananas, and oatmeal so far) and he hates all of it. He shivers with disgust every time, and does a spastic winking thing. This is going to take some practice for sure. And he better hurry up, because my boobs are having trouble keeping up with his demand.
Kale had his 6-month check up last week. And he has a very different body type than his brother. Sage was typically on the short and heavy side (at the same age). Kale is long and skinny. Kale is 27 inches long and 17 pounds 1 ounce. This puts him in the 67th percentile for length and the 41st percentile for weight.
But doesn't matter their shape or size...I love them both so much it hurts! I love my boys. Now all they need is a little sister! ;)
