The Miracle

IT'S A MIRACLE!!

Sage is now sleeping in his own bed and....
drum roll please
through the night!

We did it! We did it! We did it!

On Friday night, after a week of non-stop nocturnal nursings, I decided to attempt the cry-it-out method. I had reached my limit and Sage was no longer welcome in our bed. I nursed him to sleep, like always, then gently moved him to his own crib. When he woke up 3 hours later, I ignored him. I sat by the door and listened. I did not show my face. I did not see, touch or talk to him. I just let him cry. I used a large makeup mirror to check on his safety a couple times. And after 20 minutes - he flung himself on the mattress and went back to sleep. 20 minutes. That's it! I was prepared for a 2 hour battle. But it took only a fraction of that time. And I didn't hear another peep from him until morning. The next night he cried for 10 minutes. The next night 5. And it's been a complete success since then. Victory!

Beyond that little miracle.... we had a bit of a ho-hum weekend. Spending most of our time at the house doing some pretty deep cleaning. (But we needed it!) While we didn't engage in a lot of off-site adventures, we still found ways to entertain ourselves.

We started our weekend with some painting!

Sage painted with his hands.
And with brushes!

We found a creative way to recycle garbage (a broken CD case) into a fun face-distorting toy.

We ate lots of snacks.

And climbed on furniture.

(Very proud of himself!)

On Sunday - we did leave the house for a brief moment. We scoped out a craft market at New Belgium Brewery and then took a quick walk by the river - trying out this loaner baby carrier. Sage has outgrown the soft carrier. It's just not comfortable for him. I need something more heavy duty. Ella has generously let me borrow this one in the meantime. I've asked Matt to add one of these backpacks to my Christmas list. We'll see if Santa delivers...

On Friday afternoon, I finally finished Sage's hat. The highlight of the whole operation was the pom pom. I could literally make pom poms all day! It's so easy and so fun!

It starts like this....

And ends like this...

Sage broke in his new accessory on Sunday.

I'm very very proud of myself!
Let me emphasize, I knitted this whole thing from scratch.
It went from just a ball of yarn to this adorable hat....because of me!

It was rather warm that day (best November ever!) so the hat didn't stay on long... I won't take it personally.

Once the sun set, it got a lot colder. We had to bust out the winter jacket. Sage helped his Dad set up the bird feeder.

And then he tried pole dancing....

On Tuesday evening, Matt went grocery shopping for the family. We literally had bare shelves. We couldn't wait any longer. Sage enjoyed unpacking the bags. He got really excited by the smallest discovery.

If he's this happy with deodorant...just wait till Christmas!

A couple new tidbits about Sage:

1) He learned the word "nana" this week. It's short for banana.
2) He loves walking around in my giant adult shoes. And it's hilarious to watch.
3) Our sneaky little boy can now open doors on his own. He can reach the handles and knows how to operate them. We have entered a new stage of baby-proofing.
