Over the weekend, Sage turned 4-years-old!
And all I can think is..."Oh my gosh, how long have we been parenting for?!?" Can it really be 4 years already?
So here's the thing:
Sage lives for "parties" and "decorations". If I so happen to mention we are having a Friday night pizza party (and by that...I just mean pizza.) Then Sage is off to get the streamers to decorate.
So we knew...we had to go all out.
You only turn 4 once. And he's not always going to enjoy decorations with quite the same level of gusto.
We decorated and wrapped till 1am.
Always a joy to wait till last minute. :)
Sage was thrilled when he woke up. He knew it was his birthday, he'd been counting down the days since early July. And just like the night before Christmas, there was much anticipation about what the "next day" would hold. He expected festivities, and we delivered!
He opened one gift before his pals arrived at 11am.
It was a game I wanted to use with the party-goers.
I underestimated the amount of cleaning and prep work I had to do.
We had 4 families coming over. And I promised entertainment for kids, as well as parents.
I had just finished juicing limes and muddling mint when the doorbell rang.
Actually, I need to correct that statement....
The doorbell didn't ring.
Rather Sage (who was waiting at the end of the driveway, to watch as his friends arrived) burst through the front door, like a mechanical spring snake out of can, declaring with all his lung strength the name of the first guest.
Our first activity was a water balloon fight.
And we ever-so-smartly invested in the quick-fill balloons.
100 balloons in 60 seconds.
I kid you not. It worked!!
Our next activity was the pie face game.
Just a couple clicks and.... whamo!
Eventually I just handed over the can of whipped cream, and Sage chased down his friends to blast them with nitrice-powered dairy.
I had pizzas delivered. And Matt made 7-layer taco dip.
We also served a veggie and fruit tray.
But the star of the show was ice cream sandwiches.
After the party came to a close (while Daddy and Kale napped), Sage and I had fun with tattoos. I bought these with the intent of sharing with all the kids. But I forgot.
Then Grandma and Grandpa called.
And Sage had a blast recapping the details of his party.
Finally, it was present time.
Sage scored Legos, coloring books, a squirt gun, camera, hot wheels gear, and the most amazing big bubble wand ever created.
Happy Birthday Sage!
Congrats to your parents for surviving 4 years with a rambunctious, clever, tenacious not-so-little boy!!
