The Daily Grind

The weather turned cold again. So we were stuck indoors for the whole weekend. We had a couple exciting moments, but for the most part it was a "ho hum" sort of week.

Saturday, Sage and I had our usual morning music class. Then in the afternoon we had a 3-year old birthday party. I had been so excited about this party. It was at a local gymnastics center I had long been eyeing. I wanted to enroll Sage in classes, but they were way too expensive. But, after experiencing this gym for a painful hour and half... I'm so glad I never invested in the classes!! I did not like the facility. It was dirty. The equipment was outdated. And Sage just didn't have any interest in the activities. He avoided the larger group for most of the time. Running around and touching all sorts of "no no" items. There weren't enough teachers for a group of 10 toddlers. So Matt and I took turns trying to coral him back to the activity area. Afterwards, the kids were invited back to a party room for snacks. The room was way too small. So us parents had to stand outside the door and watch while the kids ate. I had my hopes set high for delicious party food. But all that was served were chicken nuggets and mini cupcakes - the kind you can eat in a single bite. And there was only enough for one per person. I couldn't wait to get out of there. I feel bad... I know the parents spent a lot of money...but it was not a comfortable experience.

On Sunday, the "fun" continued. We headed down the highway to our outlet mall to do some shopping. None of my pants have fit correctly since Kale's birth. And both my babies, who are growing by leaps and bounds, needed some new garments. Matt and I drove two cars. The plan was to do the Carter's shop together. Then Matt would take the kids home so I could hit up Ann Taylor and J Crew. It was a good plan. But Sage couldn't even handle one store. Carter's was a nightmare. Trying to price out clearance pajamas and door buster shirts was nearly impossible with the toddler chaos circling around our feet. Plus..Sage pooped his pants and I had to change him in the trunk of the car. We think he might have been way over-tired. He passed out as soon as Matt began the drive back home. In any case - NEVER AGAIN!

Kale is a master thumb sucker. He might even prefer his thumb over mama's boobs!! Many times while nursing him, he'll try to slip his thumb in..so he has both nipple and thumb in his mouth. Which just feels weird!

Or he'll just completely make the switch. He'll release his latch and insert his thumb. And if I'm not paying close attention, I won't even notice till I look down. I have to battle with him to finish his nursing sessions!

Speaking of nursing...Kale is now also a bottle master. He downs bottles faster than any baby I know! And likes them big. 5-6 ounces at a time. Two problems with that. 1) My bottles don't really hold that much. Sage never even came close to that size of a serving. 2) I'm not pumping nearly enough to keep up with the demand. I've starting sneaking in some defrosted milk from the freezer to help supplement the fresh stuff. It's working for now. But eventually that stock pile will dry up. Oy vey! We've gone from one end of the spectrum to the other!

Sage showing off his yoga skills....
And I'm not being funny here. He is really doing yoga! He learned it at school.

Sage's new pajamas! He picked them out all by himself!

Just because we were stuck indoors..doesn't mean we can't have some fun!

The highlight of the weekend was Sunday night. Matt and I had some brewskies. (That's how it always starts!) Then I texted my brother Sam and asked him to send me a video of him and his girlfriend doing a dance. He did. Then challenged me to do the same. Both videos were choreographed to Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up." And the final products were hilarious! Matt and I won for creativity.

Yes boys, your parents are still cool!

I can't remember if I've mentioned this before... but we have a nickname for Kale. It's KK. We all say it. Sage too. In fact, I almost never say Kale. It's always KK this... and KK that. It just rolls off the tongue.

But I do worry Kale won't recognize his own name if we don't start using it more.

Sage is going through a lying and talk-back stage. If I say, "You need to go to bed, Sage." He'll immediately say, "No, YOU need to go to bed!" And he does that for everything. Eating dinner. Going potty. He likes to throw it right back in your face.

Another example, the other day we told him to get off the stairs, and he growled at us, "No, I'm the boss!" Hard not to laugh when you hear that for the first time.

Sage also makes up stories. At first you want to believe him, like when he tells you that his classmate pushed him. We shower him with sympathy.... But then he when he tries to tell you that Santa hit him in the face...you know he made it all up! Apparently both Santa and our cat Nico like to hit Sage in the face on a daily basis. Such tall tales!
