Food With Friends

Well.... the weather forecasters told us Saturday and Sunday were going to be rainy. And they were right! It was the gloomiest weather I had seen in a long time. It was chilly. And there wasn't a speckle of sunshine anywhere. Energy levels were low and our weekend was really quite mellow.

The highlight for Saturday was Haddie's 1 year birthday party. It was fun to reconnect with friends and enjoy some good food. We had a lemon blueberry bunt cake that was to die for! And I've since snagged the recipe for myself. :)

Haddie scored a hug bag of balls for her birthday. Sage enjoyed breaking them in for her.

On Sunday morning, we took Sage to Toys R Us to try out the bicycles. We want to get him a trike or bike for his 2nd birthday (which is quickly approaching). But what do you know...he was much more attracted to this giant motorized SUV instead! Grandparents - don't even think about it. I don't want this in my garage!

After a quick ride with Bert and Ernie, it was back home to make some lunch.

I've been a little discouraged since last week's cooking attempt. My last two dishes were less-than-successful, if not downright gross. So I went into this next experiment thinking the worst. But alas, I had a victory! I made falafel from scratch for the first time ever, using dried chickpeas, fresh herbs, and an array of spices. I can honestly say it was the BEST falafel I've ever had. Not to toot my own horn...but it was damn good!

After baking.

I also made a yogurt sauce for garnish. Just delectable! I am back on the cooking train!

Later in the evening, we met up with  Andy, Lainey, and Sam for a quick dinner and to hash out the details of our upcoming Steamboat vacation together. I'm so excited  to spend a long weekend away in a mountain town. We depart next week.

And then it was Monday....
And you know what? Not a freaking cloud in the sky that day...as I watched from office window.
Ba humbug!

A post-breakfast cartoon-entranced Sage before work on Monday.

And finally, a sneak peak of baby brother. Not sure why I didn't post these sooner. But here they are now.
These were taken in early May.

Trying to suck his thumb!

We are all really looking forward to meeting him in September. He is getting bigger and stronger every day. He's very active in my belly. Lots of kicks and rumbles. And I love each one of his tiny disturbances. Reassures me he is doing just fine!
