Matt and I started the weekend with a long overdue date night. Matt's friend generously offered to babysit Sage overnight so that we could head up to Mishawaka Amphitheater for a late-night concert featuring a long-time favorite band - moe.
We rode the "shuttle" up to the venue. Basically a school bus. About a 40 minute drive.
The bus ride is definitely a party in its own right. Everyone was drinking... And I was seething with jealousy.
The shuttle dropped us off around 7:30pm. The venue was quite desolate at that time. Moe wasn't scheduled to start until 10pm. We had a lot of time to kill.
The band played fabulously! Matt and I heard some of our favorite songs, and we enjoyed a very stunning light show. But....I must admit...that being one of the few sober fans in a shoulder-to-shoulder crowd of intoxicated hippies is really hard. It takes a lot of patience. And by about midnight I had run out of it. I was tired of people bumping into me. I was tired of not having anywhere to sit. I was tired of the non-stop cloud of cigarette and marijuana smoke. I really wanted a beer. I also really wanted a bed. I didn't want to be a party-pooper. But despite several internal pep-talks, I just couldn't shake it off. Eventually, during second set, I left Matt behind and went to the restaurant dining area where there was space, and fresh air, and chairs. I thew the towel in! And just watched the concert from a distance.
The show ended around 1:30 in the morning. After a long shuttle ride back to town, Matt and I didn't walk through the front door until 3am. Way way too late for a pregnant woman. We washed the porta-potty off ourselves and made some food. We finally got to sleep around 4am. Then at 7am the alarm went off.
Time to get Sage!
Needless to say, Saturday was brutal. Matt and I were SO tired. Painfully tired. And it was cloudy all day. So the entire day was an energy struggle. It was a bum day. A waste of a day. And I wasn't happy about that. My weekends are sacred! Time shouldn't be wasted!
Our only interesting activity for the day was a round of explorative play with glowsticks. I had packed these for the show the night before...but decided not to use them. I figured Sage and I would have more fun with these at home.
Do you love the earrings I made him!?!?!
My little tribal child.
After we lit up his arms and legs, Sage ran round and round in circles. Quite entertaining to watch.
Finally Saturday came to an end. I went to sleep at 7:30 that night. And didn't wake until 7:30 the next morning. 12 hours of sleep!!!! And then I felt normal again.
And on Sunday it was Father's Day!
We did some classic some activities on Sunday.
Including coloring with chalk and a run through the sprinklers.
For lunch, we headed to Qdoba for a a buy-one-get-one free nacho extravaganza. TCBY was right next door. So of course we got some frozen yogurt too!
Sage showing off his gymnastic skills in the parking lot...
Then it was back home for more outdoor fun.
Sage is just like his dad. It is ridiculous. Loves plants. Loves watering them. Loves fussing over them. I feel left out sometimes...
Trying to spray mommy and daddy with the hose and thinking it's hilarious!
He got soaking wet. So we stripped him down.
And then it was time for a big surprise....
Matt and I have been preparing for Sage's birthday party. And we decided we wanted a bounce house at the event. We ordered one online... and it arrived this week. We thought it necessary to test it out. Just in case it was broken or damaged. So here we are doing the test run.
Took only minutes to inflate.
Now action time!
He loved it! He had so much fun bouncing around. But.... there will be no more bounce house until the day of his party. We want it to still be exciting and special on that day.
Fun with bubble bath.
And now for a quick Nico update....
Our frisky little kitty is doing wonderful. He's getting subcutaneous fluids every other day. And he is cuddly and pesky just like he used to be. We had a vet appointment yesterday. He has gained a half pound in the last two weeks! Which means that since we first discovered his kidney disease and began treatment, he has gained a total of 1.25 pounds! He lost 5 pounds total sometime during his initial battle. So we still have a ways to go. But the fact that his weight keeps inching up is a great sign. I'm still waiting for the lab results from the vet. Fingers crossed! But based on his behavior, he's doing great!
