Swimming Adventures and a Wedding!

A goal for this summer was to take the boys swimming several times. So 2 weekends in a row we hit up the City Park Pool. Here's the big secret.... Get there Sunday morning right when the doors open, and you have the whole place to yourself. Incredible!!

The kids love swimming. We usually spend about 2.5 hours there. And for the rest of the week they'll talk about it like we took them to Disney World. Telling everyone they pass where they spent their weekend, and asking if we can go back as soon as possible.

This pool is perfectly designed. The majority of the pool is 1 to 2 feet deep, with lots of splashy bubbly water features. Sage and Kale can pretty much go anywhere on the "kid side" all by themselves. We're always within arm's reach. But for the most part, we adults just float beside the kids and watch them explore. Deeper water can be accessed in the far back of the pool - but we don't go over there much. And since I don't have to freak over safety the whole time, I actually find the pool incredibly relaxing!

So with 2 swimming session under our summer belt, it was time for another highly anticipated event - Sam and Alison's wedding.

We kicked off the nuptials with a Friday night rehearsal dinner at the Collindale Golf Course. My mom did a fabulous job of decorating. All the little touches were appreciated!

My kids had ample room to run around and climb during the event, which did make mingling and eating quite difficult. It took two adults, with four working eyes, to keep track of the rag-a-muffins. (And then I got sick to my stomach imaging it with 3.....)

At least Matt had alcohol to help calm his nerves.
Not me. Nothing to numb the poor pregnant lady's mood swings!

Sage knows how to work that camera!

Kale looked exquisitely sharp, except the poor kid got a terrible mosquito bite right in the middle of his eyes. His face swelled up - giving him a Star Trek style brow and a huge red patch. Makeup helped with the redness. But I couldn't do a thing about the face deformity. What a great day to meet so many new friends and family members. Oy!

My kids bonded nicely with the Voelker kids.

Sage and Kale got to hang with quite a few awesome people on this evening.

Their Uncle Jack...

Their Great Uncle Phil....

Their Grandpa Bill....

And me!

(Obviously the golf carts were a popular activity.)

Finally as the night came to a close, the kids found themselves a cozy spot to hunker down and relax.

Right here.... below the dessert table.
I bet you they had 6 cookies a piece. Oy!

Overall, I'd say the boys had a GOOD time!

And then it was the big day.
Saturday, June 24th.
In gorgeous Lory State Park.
Sam and Alison looked incredible.
The weather was a comfortable 72 degrees.

Who officiated the wedding?
This gal!

And I think it went quite well. I got many many compliments. It was a quick 10 minute speech. I really had to project my voice across the field. But people seemed to indicate they could hear me. I would absolutely do this again. Side job maybe???

That scarf did a stupendous job of hiding my pregnant belly button. From the front, you can barely tell I'm 29 weeks pregnant! (Now from the side, it looks like I swallowed a beach ball.)

We kept the kids clean and spiffy just long enough for a round of family photos. Then I let them run a muck.

They had so much fun out there!

Even the adults got to play a little!

The sacred first dance.
No time like this time to rummage through the trash, right?

It's kind of like Where's Waldo....but Sage style. He was always in the area, somewhere on the outskirts. But never in the middle of the crowd. He much preferred the perimeter....

Can you spot the Sage?

Kale OWNED the dance floor. He taught everyone how to do proper footwork. If you did it wrong, he told you. If you did it right, he praised you and moved along to the next student.

They were very technical moves. Tap front. Tap back. Repeat.

Lots and lots of cobbler....

Bye bye Lory. Thanks for the views!

And then just some random images from around the house....

A basement full of toys.
But this is what they play with.

And a little belly bump update:

Me at around 28 weeks.....

And that's not the only thing in bloom...
Our first harvest of the season.
The peas are in!
