Friday after work the "daycare gang" got together at the cutest little pub - William and Olivers - which is literally right across the street from our childcare facility. The parents met up at 4:30pm for an end-of-week cocktail. The rule is, you have to pick up your kids by 6pm. So when we all looked at our phones and realized it was 5:45, we sent the dads on an adventure to retrieve the kids - and all on foot! The gang of men were sent on their way, and us lucky ladies got to have some girl time.
But soon enough the dads and kids were back. And our table became the rowdy table at the pub!
The next morning we had Easter brunch plans with our friends. It was a cold day, but that didn't stop the kids from a classic Easter egg hunt. Sage was mad fast. He ran from egg to egg, filling his basket quicker than anyone (including the 5-year old!) Of course...he's been practicing for over a year now. But still, he completed his hunt "mission impossible" style, and both Matt and I were caught by surprise. :)
In the end, the egg distribution worked out....since Kale hardly got any eggs...and he really didn't care that much....
Next, we went inside to do some egg dying.
I was surprised at how smooth this went....
Sunday, the real deal.
The Easter Bunny brought two very special baskets for two very special boys!
Kale has bed head!
Little did I know that those super hero eggs each had 10 lollipops inside... The label said it was "candy and stickers." But it was so much heavier on the candy side. I soon realized that the Easter Bunny may have overdone it, and may have brought a wee too much sugar into the house. Yikes!
We finally just finished off the Christmas stash... and now we have refreshed the cabinet in Easter theme. It's going to be a long road to a candy-free home again. :)
After the baskets exploded, I made our Easter morning breakfast. Homemade granola (my first try ever) with vanilla yogurt (store bought) and lemon curd (homemade). Last Easter, Matt and I had this lemon curd to-die-for at Gram and Dun in Kansas City. We wanted to recreate it. When I went online to search for recipes, I discovered that curd is just a fancy word for "egg sauce." And I quickly lost my appetite for lemon curd. I like eggs... but I like them really really cooked. (Don't judge me, I just am the way I am.)
Anyway....so I went online to find an eggless lemon curd. And I did. But Matt would tell you it wasn't nearly as good as the real thing. I liked my version of it. Sweet and creamy. Paired well with the yogurt. (Kids ate it too!) But Matt didn't agree. He was left with nostalgia for the original.
Later, we moved outdoors for the egg hunt.
Once again Sage was lightening fast. Matt captured a small video on his phone. And when you watch it, you think it's in double speed. (But then you notice Kale in the corner...moving at a quarter the pace.)
Time to sort the loot!
While some eggs held candy, many of the eggs held lego-like figures that Sage could build (with adult help.) To be quite honest, these were tougher to construct than I was anticipating. My fingers were sore by the end of it!
Have you seen the warnings???
Too much candy can lead to.....
BUCKET HEAD!

And to wrap up this post, I want to share a couple more photos from our snow day last week.
