Something Strange

Something strange happened last week...
The sun came back!
We've had the 5th coldest May ever on record here in Colorado. So it's about stinkin time the sun came out!

The sun wouldn't stick around all day... but it would come out for just a couple hours. And always in the morning, followed by afternoon rain. But that was all we needed for some Saturday backyard play.

On Sunday we went to the Kites in the Park Festival. Last year it was canceled due to rain. This year it was dry...but very windy. Almost too windy to fly a kite. But people were still out there - filling the skies with all sorts of kites. But it did feel dangerous. Kites were dive bombing all over the place. I was terrified of Kale getting hit in the head. In the end, he didn't.... but his mom did! And luckily it wasn't as painful as it looked when it was happening to so many of the other festivarians.

Sage and Matt took the kite for its first spin. They are pictured center bottom of the photo below. Kale is in the stroller, taking all the chaos in.

Then I flew the kite. But I was scared to let it go high. For two reasons. 1) Losing control and hitting an innocent bystander. 2) Getting my line tangled with someone else.

Matt made fun of me for flying it so low... I see now what he was talking about. :)

We had beautiful weather and ran into several friends.

And we dined on some awesome carnival food.

We finished up the weekend with a little round of play dough.
Sage made a series of birthday cakes -each featuring a different flavor.

He would cut a slice of each and offer it up for others to taste.

The week also included a little Mommy and Kale date to the Creperie, a French breakfast restaurant. Just the two of us. Kale was a perfect angel. (It won't always be like that... so I better take advantage of it now.)

Kale ate the tablecloth while I dined on the best breakfast I've had since Easter Sunday.

Kale also helped me get a load of donation items for Good Will packed up.

While Sage played the role of Mr. Fix It...using his tools to address various problem spots around the house. Gotta love his tool belt!
