Kale is growing up! He is now 4 months old. And his personality is really starting to shine. He is mellow, and happy, and giggly. (Except when he has gas. Then he screams! But that's the exception to the rule.) He seems to be growing by leaps and bounds too. At least in height. Unlike his older brother a this same infant stage, Kale is long and lean.
Kale had his 4 month check-up on Friday. He is in the 75th percentile for height and 40th percentile for weight. Tall and slim. Sage was much more of an aggressive eater and was always in the 90th percentile (or higher) for weight. So a very chunky baby. If Kale keeps up this body stature, I'm hopeful he can purchase shoes off the regular store shelf. I'm crossing my fingers I don't have to special order for him! Sage currently wears double wide $50 specialty shoes. The kid has great legs, but they just don't fit in normal shoes. And that gets a little pricey.
Sage is doing some growing up too. He has recently become fascinated with big-boy underwear. But since we have regressed in the area of potty training, he has to wear the undies over his diapers. He is only going in the potty about 50% of the time. It's such a battle to get him to go. He requires magazines, toys, and a companion too. He has said on several occasions... "Dad, you wanna poop with me?" Cutest thing ever! How can you say no?
I very badly wanted a picture of Sage in his undies and boots. He didn't want to cooperate. He ran and ran to get away from me. And I had no reservations about chasing him around with a camera.
But then the iphone distracted him.
Gotcha!
This child NEVER wears clothes. We plead with him to wear something. And he fights us. And I decided this battle just doesn't really matter right now.
Sage continues to impress us with his big-brother skills. He is so good with Kale. So attentive and so gentle.
And Sage has figured out how to make him laugh. His favorite method involves three little puppies velcroed above the swing.
Sage, one at a time, will snatch a puppy down and sing, "And...one fell off!" Kale laughs every time. Sage then re-attaches the dogs and does it all over.
Look at Kale's face below. It's obvious he is having a great time!
Winter, winter, winter...
The slush and snow are finally melting away. Thank goodness for dry roads. Now it's time to hit the car wash and sweep the garage out.
I believe Kale is teething right now. He drools constantly, getting the collar of all his shirts wet. And he chews on his fingers and sucks on his thumb non-stop. My bet is by mid-February he's got a big front tooth sticking out.
Sage and I started a Saturday music class. It's a multi-week series. Below is a picture of Sage on his first day of class. We had fun!
Like I said above...
Fingers and thumbs. Always in his mouth.
We made pizza twice this week. And we are making improvements every time. I tried a new crust recipe out. Our goal with super thin cracker crispy crust.
Round one was decently good. We did marinara, artichokes, red pepper, feta cheese, and mozzarella.
But try number two was the jackpot!
I made a balsamic reduction.
And we topped it with roasted garlic cloves, romano, smoked mozzarella, and arugula.
And it was amazing!!! It was exactly what we were wanting. And now that we've got the crust figured out...we can play around with the toppings as much as we like. But I'll tell you...that balsamic reduction was just about perfect. It was sweet and savory. And eliminated the need for any other sauce (red or white). It was divine.
