Sage loves to explore the guitar with Daddy. And he's pretty good at using the pick!
I've been making a deliberate effort to bake more for my family. This includes both on the weeknights and weekends. Through the magic of Interlibrary Loan, I checked out about 12 cookbooks, from my favorite cookbook authors, America's Test Kitchen. And I've been taking pictures of recipes I like with my ipad. This week I tried several new items. Pictured above are spinach and cheese turnover made in a puff pastry shell.
We paired the turnovers with salad.
And I never thought in a million years Sage would eat the salad! He does this sometimes... where he will surprise us and actually eat a green veggie. (I saw it with both broccoli and cucumber quite recently.) But it's one time, and it never happens again.
Which is why we quickly grabbed the camera. We like to remind ourselves...he did do that once!
On Friday I made a cold tortellini salad with a basil lemon vinaigrette. And it was phenomenal!
Then on Saturday, we decided to give the veggies a break and go out for some fro yo! While Matt caught up on some backyard gardening, Sage and I walked to the nearby shopping complex and helped ourselves to a slice of pizza and some frozen dairy with delectable toppings.
Then it was back home for some "man" time!
A little sugar makes Sage act silly!
On Sunday, Sage had a brief fascination with sitting on things far too small for him. The toy train (above) and the doll furniture (below).
That morning I decided to bust out my brand new waffle iron. I made the batter from scratch. Picking one of several recipes in my cookbooks.
And it was to die for!!!!
The waffles were close to the most amazingly delicious thing I've ever tasted. Complete with real maple syrup and fresh strawberries. I was ooing and aahing like a crazy person that morning.
Sage is going through a stuffed animal phase right now. He does a lot of imaginative play with them. He brushes their teeth. He carries them upstairs and downstairs with him. He lays them down to put them to sleep. (Notice that he even put the drums to sleep...)
Sagey loves his kitty cats.
And he is so much more gentle with them these days. He has learned how to actually "pet." Rather than just smother and smoosh.
Look who's under the sand-and-water table?
It's Luna!
On Sunday I went to the grocery store and scored these gorgeous flowers for just $3. They were on Manager's Special. And I cannot pass up a good deal!
Silly dress up play.
We ended the weekend with a lovely bike ride around the neighborhood. I took Sage on the first round. When we got back to the house, he said "Daddy sit," and climbed back into the trailer. He wanted his daddy to take him for a ride too. He's very convincing!
Monday morning breakfast time!
And on a sadder note, our youngest cat Nico is in the hospital today with chronic kidney failure. He is very sick and we hope that you will send good thoughts his way. He is currently receiving IV fluids. If he responds well, we might buy him a couple more months of quality life. If he doesn't respond....then we might have to say goodbye next week. We should know by Thursday what the future holds.
We love you Nico!!!
