The First Christmas

December 25th, 2012.
Christmas morning. Our sweet boy slept in until 9:30am.

Sage received several books for Christmas. One of my greatest joys as a mother is reading to him. He doesn't quite yet have the attention span necessary for reading a whole book. But, he is getting there. It's all about timing. He needs to be in just the right mood. And have a full belly.

Sage got a puppet! Her name is Scortch.... and she reminds me of a Jim Hensen Muppet. Although there is no official relation.

Sage was incredibly spoiled by his grandparents and uncles this Christmas. Thanks to everyone!!!
And, some of his gifts are yet to arrive, as we are expecting a visit from the Carter grandparents in mid January. One item not photographed here that I am incredibly grateful for is a bike trailer, received from Grandma Sheryl and Grandpa Gary. I am so excited about carting Sage around the Fort Collins trails once the weather gets warm!!!

Sage was in an AMAZING mood on Christmas day. He was smiley, giggly, and patient. He fully participated in all the festivities....including the opening of gifts. We made him open each and every one of his gifts. Which is why we didn't finish presents until 3pm in the afternoon. Snail speed.

On December 30th, Sage turned 5 months old! His 4-month and 3-month photos are below for comparison. While his face may not have changed that much, his maturity and dexterity certainly have! He can reach and grab for toys miraculously. He has discovered the joys of teethers and gnaws on them quite aggressively. (Matt and I can feel something sharp in his top gum. We think a tooth is slowly working its way down.) He can sit up on his own without support for several seconds at a time. And he is incredibly ticklish, producing impressive screams, squeals, and giggles.

I am happy to report that SAGE IS SLEEPING THROUGH THE NIGHT AGAIN!!! For several nights in a row, Sage has gone to bed at 9:30pm and has not woken up until 5:30 or 6:30am! I have greatly missed this luxury and am so happy to return to this pattern. We have not changed his diet at all. Sage is still surviving on 100% breastmilk. No formula, no cereal. Rather, I attribute our sleeping success to the NoseFrida - highlighted in a previous post. He is no longer stuffed up and is sleeping "like a baby!" :)

Practicing his yoga moves!
Sage is a master of the Happy Baby pose.
Also knows as Dead Bug.

Sage enjoys snuggling with his Hallmark Interactive Story Buddy. The bear, whose name is Cooper, came with a an adorable illustrated book. Cooper responds to several lines in the book. There are 4 books in the series, each one generating new responses from Cooper. Sage smiles and giggles at Cooper, and sometimes tries to eat his face.....

He also likes his Poppity Pop Musical Dino. This thing is action packed! It plays music while frantically popping balls all over the room. Once Sage is mobile, this toy will encourage movement, as he chases down the balls. But for now, it's giving Sage good sitting practice!
